The ADI qualifying process involves passing 3 tests:

National Register of LGV Instructors

About the NRI

The NRI started operating in January 2017. It is a not-for-profit training, examination and registration system for LGV Instructors in the UK which is endorsed by Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency and supported by the Road Haulage Association and Freight Transport Association. It is managed and operated by RTITB Ltd who set and conduct all examinations for register membership.

LGS Transport Training is an NRI Examination Centre approved to provide Level 3 training courses which develop, prepare and support candidates for the NRI Examination. The course provides candidates with the skills necessary to prepare drivers for the DVSA driving tests, to deliver Driver CPC training, and to carry out post-assessment/incident remedial training.

By the end of the course candidates will:

• Be able to plan and deliver LGV training

• Be able to recall and discuss the responsibilities of a LGV instructor

• Be able to explain the content and objectives of the LGV driving test

The NRI Examination

NRI registration is achieved by passing the NRI Examination. The examination was developed to retain the standards demanded by the previous DVSA examination and contains similar but expanded content. As the successor to the DVSA examination it has also been set at UK educational Level 3.

The NRI examination has four parts; a Theory Test, an assessment of Practical Driving Ability, a simulated In-cab Training session and a simulated Classroom Training session. The NRI examination can be taken at LGS Transport Training, which is an approved NRI Examination Centre. All examinations are conducted by NRI examiners, who are trained and appointed solely by RTITB Ltd. Successful examination candidates apply to join the NRI register.
